 The Algerian Nationality Code is passed in the newly independent country, depriving Jews and other non-Muslims of their citizenship, which was granted to Muslims only. Under the previous French rule, Algerian Jews had enjoyed full equality since 24 October 1870. Most of the Jewish community fled the country. |
