On this day, an article in the Komsomolskaia Pravda, the newspaper of the Young Communist League, describes Zionism as "an invisible but huge and mighty empire of financiers and industrialists." The USSR, by substituting the word "Zionists" for "Jews", had resurrected the loathsome Jewish conspiracy theories and hate propaganda that had filled Czarist Russia. The article went on to offer some fantastic statistics, claiming that in the USA 70% of lawyers, 69% of physicists, 43% of industrialists and 80% of media owners were all Zionists. These figures were later found out to be quoted from an Arab propaganda piece published in Cairo in 1957 under the guidance of Nazi propaganda master Johannes von Leers.
