Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez meets with Jewish leaders, pledging his commitment to combat anti-Semitism and to improve communication between the two communities, despite differences on Middle East politics. The South American nation had experienced a rising wave of anti-Semitism since Chavez assumed power and began expressing his anti-Israel beliefs and pro-Iran policies. Chavez, however, proceeded to increase his rethoric and expand it into direct and open attacks on Jews.
