A bewildering letter of clarification by Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus seeks to clarify that he does not hate Jews (recognizing that Jesus was born a Jew), but claims that the Jews have since been lead into Satanism by the teachings of the Talmud, the Rabbis and the Kabbalah, and that Zionism is a conspiracy to take over the world. Metropolitan Seraphim further seems to believe that because he has already publicly declared his belief in these crackpot theories in the past, he should be exempt from the angry reaction shown at his most recent pronouncements.
The letter was published on a Greek-Orthodox news agency’s website. It came following the widespread outrage and condemnation of the remarks which the Greek Orthodox bishop made on a recent television interview, in which he blamed the country’s financial problems on a conspiracy of Jewish bankers, and claimed that the Holocaust was orchestrated by Zionists.

Clarifying statement by Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus Thursday, the 23rd December 2010, Written at 20:30 Following the questions raised by the European Jewish Congress with regard to my interview with the MEGA television channel on December 20, I have to say the following: 1. The things I said during my participation in the "society hours mega” are strictly my personal views and opinions, which I have expressed repeatedly both verbally and in writing. 2.
