Texas: Jewish House Speaker Defeats Religious Smears

Tea Party opponents of Texas State Representative Joe Straus campaigned against his re-election to the position of Speaker of the House by running a smear campaign in which they stressed his Judaism, imputing negative stereotypes based on this, while trumpeting their own candidate’s Christianity and the need to place a ‘true Christian’ in the important post. These messages were sent out in mass emails and in automated phone recordings.

 

As Anti-Semitism Rises, More of Belgium’s Jews Immigrate to Israel

Figures released by the Jewish Agency indicated an increase of 63 percent in the number of Belgian Jews who immigrated to Israel in 2010 when compared to the previous year: 250 compared to 152 in 2009.
